Jr. Youth Group

The Mt. Zion Junior Youth Group was founded in the late 1950’s by Jane and Kenneth Beam and at that time it was called Christian Endeavor. Jane and Kenneth served as leaders for 26 years. Today the JYG is led by Sherry Warrick.

JYG meets every Wednesday evening, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Children of any age are welcome to attend, as long as they are old enough to sit through a story. Our group is made up of Mt. Zion and Ground Oak kids as well as those from the surrounding community and we try to uphold the Christian Endeavor Pledge that began our organization seventy five years ago.

Christian Endeavor Pledge

Trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for strength,
I promise Him that I will strive to do
whatever He would have me do;
I will make it the rule of my life
to pray and to read the Bible every day;
I will support the work and worship of my church
in every way possible;
I will seek to bring others to Christ;
And so far as I know how,
I will endeavor to lead a Christian life

In Junior Youth Group we do the following:

  1. Founded and maintain the Outdoor Food Pantry for anyone in need in our community
  2. Founded and maintain the Service Bags for small children during the church service
  3. Hold various dinners such as Chicken Cor Don Blue and Spaghetti
  4. Provide Peanut Butter or Coconut eggs to the members after the Easter service
  5. Plant flowers along the Church parking lot
  6. Hold the Annual Fall Festival
  7. Go Christmas Caroling
  8. Host Halloween & Easter Parties for the community
  9. Have pool parties
  10. Help at Apple Harvest
  11. Participate in the Christmas Plays
  12. Serve wherever and whenever needed.
  13. Attend Labor Day Retreat
  14. Go on outings and enjoy getting together

Our goal each year is the Labor Day CE Retreat at Doubling Gap in Newville, Pa. 2019 will be the 75th year for CE Retreat. We are honored to be part of such a wonderful event that helps mold young people into future leaders in our communities.

The JYG helps the church AND community with any special needs they can provide throughout the year and we invite anyone interested in active service to God to come out and take part in Jr.Youth Group.

Youth Mission Work

THANK YOU:

The Out Door Food pantry is functioning and helping those in need in our community. The members of the Jr. Youth Group wish to thank everyone for their continued support and generous donations. The outpouring of love from both congregations for this mission has been fantastic.

If you are considering items to donate, please note that along with regular food items, we could use toilet paper and toiletries, dish soap and cleaning supplies, as well as toothpaste and toothbrushes.

If you know of a family in need, contact any Jr. Youth Group member or Joyce Sowers, 717-528-8241, or Sherry Warrick, 717-486-7270.
